Our Hot Pure Water Window Cleaning System

Did you know that Surrey has hard water? Tap water hardness in our area is 374 parts per million or ppm total dissolved solids (TDS) and anything above 200 ppm TDS is considered hard water. This means our tap water has quite a lot of minerals (like calcium and magnesium) in it. While this is ok for drinking, it leaves a lot of streaks, spotting and stains when used for cleaning.

That is why professional window cleaners like ourselves prefer to use the pure water window cleaning method.

What is Pure Water?

Pure water is free of any minerals, impurities and sediments. It has zero TDS and so doesn’t leave any residue after a clean. We don’t even need to use soap or other chemical solutions, because pure water can absorb most dirt. After brushing, a rinse with pure water can wash this dirt away leaving a crystal-clear finish.

Where Do We Get Pure Water

Here is the equipment we use to make softened ultra purified water.

The first picture is under my kitchen sink which is the water softener that uses a special resin that is flushed with salt to keep it clean. This turns normal hard water into soft water but it still isn’t pure!

It then goes through an insulated pipe into my garage where the main equipment is.

The softened unpure water enters on the left side via the yellow hose and straight into 2 black 40 inch carbon prefilters. From the prefilters it goes into a booster pump to raise the psi and pump into the long silver tube which contains the reverse osmosis (RO) filter. It is the RO filter that gets rid of most of the TDS (total dissolved solids). From a TDS of 374 parts per million, after the RO filter it has a reading of 6 parts per million.

From the RO filter the water then travels into the 2 deionisation vessels on the floor on the right hand side. They both have different grades of resin in them which will take the water down to zero parts per million.

To make 1 litre of pure takes 3 litres of water as 2 litres of waste is produced which is recycled back to Affinity Water. This machine makes 3 litres of pure water per minute and will automatically flush the membranes and turn itself off once the 1000 litre tank is full.

The pure water is transfered from our machine into the vans by a petrol pump style filling hose. Inside each van is a holding tank between 350-650 litres (depending on which vehicle). The holding tank has 2 electronic flow controllers and 2 pumps.

However the water hasn’t yet finished it’s journey because before it cleans a window the van systems pump the water through a diesel or gas boiler which heats the water to between 30-65 degrees depending on what we are cleaning! Each van has 2 sets of everything so we can run 2 operators from each van.

The Water Fed Pole System

This pure heated water is delivered to your windows using a modern water fed pole system.

It consists of a telescopic pole, reaching up to three or four floors high.

A hose runs the length of this pole feeding the pure hot water to a brush head.

We can control the pressure and temperature at which the water is fed to the brush, which is specially designed to clean glass and upvc without scratching or causing any damage.

Benefits of our Hot Pure Water System

This pure water heated to the optimal temperature for cleaning provides us with outstanding window cleaning results. What are the advantages?

  • The water we use is guaranteed to have zero contaminants meaning it is purer than bottled water therefore no spots left.

  • Being totally chemical free not only do the windows stay cleaner longer as there is no residue but it is better for the environment and your plants.

  • Hot water cleans better than cold water meaning we only need to clean your windows every 6 weeks not 4 like some window cleaners.

  • No ladders on your window sills which can cause damage.

  • The lightweight extendable poles allow us to access hard to reach windows, like those above conservatory roofs or where there is no ladder space

  • Better for your privacy – no peering into your bedrooms!

  • We clean the frames and sills for free.

  • This equipment makes us more efficient and delivers a top quality clean at a fraction of the time it would take using squeegees and ladders.

  • Our heating system runs on bio-diesel.

  • We can clean windows in the rain (within reason) and the windows will still be spot free.

Needless to say our pure, hot water system does an amazing job on the windows and frames but did you know we can also clean your facias, soffits and external guttering as well as conservatory roofs with this equipment? It is a truly versatile and effective external cleaning tool.
